Joe: Alright, so Nehemiah 10, what do we got?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, this chapter is all about the covenant the people of Israel made to follow the Law of God.

Joe: Woah, woah, hold up. What’s a covenant?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, a covenant is an agreement between two parties. In this case, the people of Israel are agreeing to obey the Law of God.

Joe: That’s crazy. So, they’re basically saying they’ll do whatever God says?

Bible Expert: That’s right, Joe. They make a commitment to follow God’s Law and they sign it with their own names.

Joe: Alright. So, what else happens in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, the people also agree to keep the Sabbath holy and take care of the Temple and its services. They also agree not to marry people from other nations and to give a tenth of their crops to the Lord.

Joe: Whoa, a tenth? So, they’re basically giving away 10% of their stuff?

Bible Expert: That’s right, Joe. They’re showing their commitment to God by giving away 10% of their possessions.

Joe: That’s pretty cool. So, what else?

Bible Expert: Joe, the people also agree to provide for the priests and Levites and to bring offerings to the Lord. They also agree to keep all of God’s commandments and follow his decrees.

Joe: Wow, that’s a lot of stuff. So, did they actually stick to this covenant?

Bible Expert: Yes, Joe, they did. They kept the covenant and followed all of God’s laws.
