Joe: Alright, so what do we have today?

Bible Expert: Today we are looking at Judges 14.

Joe: Alright, let's hear it.

Bible Expert: Well, in Judges 14 we have the story of Samson, an Israelite judge and warrior. He meets a Philistine woman and decides to marry her, despite the objections of his parents. He goes to visit her and on the way is attacked by a lion, but he kills it with his bare hands.

Joe: Wait a minute, he killed a lion with his bare hands?

Jamie: [In the background] Yeah Joe, I Googled it and it looks like it’s true.

Joe: Wow, okay. Continue.

Bible Expert: So, on his return, he notices that bees had built a honeycomb in the carcass of the lion. He takes some of the honeycomb and eats it. He then gives some to his parents, but they refuse to eat it.

Joe: That’s kinda weird, why did they refuse?

Bible Expert: Well, it was because the honeycomb was part of an offering to a false god.

Joe: Interesting. So what happens next?

Bible Expert: Well, Samson goes to the Philistine city of Timnah to marry the woman he had met. On the way, he is challenged to a riddle. He solves the riddle correctly and wins a wager with the Philistines. Unfortunately, when it comes time to pay out the wager, the Philistines refuse to pay.

Joe: That’s messed up, so what does he do?

Bible Expert: In response, Samson goes to the city and attacks it, killing many of the Philistines. He then returns to his own people.

Joe: Wow, so he was a pretty powerful guy then?

Bible Expert: Yes, he was a very powerful warrior and judge.
