Joe: Alright, so welcome to the show Bible Expert! What do you got for us today?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, today we're talking about Judges 21.

Joe: Alright, let's hear it.

Bible Expert: So, after the death of the judge Ibzan, the people of Israel ask the Lord what to do to find wives for the 600 Benjamite men who survived the war. The Lord instructs them to go to the yearly festival at Shiloh in the land of Benjamin and to ambush the women dancing in the vineyards.

Joe: Wait, what? That's a little extreme, don't you think?

Bible Expert: Well, Joe, it was a desperate situation. The aim was to find wives for the Benjamite men so that their tribe would not be extinguished.

Joe: Alright, so what happened?

Bible Expert: So, the Israelites did as the Lord commanded and they took 400 women from the vineyards of Shiloh. But this still left 200 men without wives. So, the Israelites devised a plan. They told the Benjamites to hide in the vineyards and wait for the daughters of Shiloh to come out and dance. When the women did come out, the Benjamites grabbed them and took them as wives.

Joe: Wow, that's pretty wild. I guess it worked?

Bible Expert: Yes, it did work. With 400 wives taken from Shiloh and 200 more taken by the Benjamites, all 600 men were able to marry and keep the Benjamite tribe alive.

Joe: So, what happened next?

Bible Expert: After this, the Israelites gathered at Mizpah and made a covenant. They vowed never to give their daughters to the Benjamites as wives and they also vowed to never try to get wives for the Benjamites from other tribes.

Joe: That's a pretty interesting story. Thanks for sharing it with us Bible Expert!
