Joe: Alright, so let me get this straight. We're talking about Ruth Chapter 2 now?

Bible Expert: That's right.

Joe: What happened in this chapter?

Bible Expert: Well, Ruth and Naomi were in Bethlehem and the barley harvest had just begun. Ruth went out to the fields to glean some grain and the field she chose just happened to belong to Boaz, a relative of Naomi's. Boaz was very kind to Ruth and he said that she could stay in his fields and told his workers to leave extra grain for her. He also gave her water and told her not to go to any other fields - that she could stay with him.

Joe: Wow, that's pretty nice of him.

Bible Expert: It sure was. Boaz then went to the town gate and had a conversation with some of the elders, who were also relatives of Naomi. He explained the situation and they said that he should take Ruth as his wife and that they would take care of any legal matters.

Joe: So he agreed to marry her right away?

Bible Expert: Not exactly. Boaz said that he would take care of the situation, but there was one other relative who had a prior claim to Ruth, according to the law. Boaz said that he would take care of it, but the other relative had to agree.

Joe: Okay, so what happened then?

Bible Expert: The other relative agreed to give up his claim and Boaz and Ruth were married. Boaz also gave Naomi and Ruth his land, so that they would have a place to live.

Joe: Wow, that's a really nice ending to the story.

Bible Expert: It certainly is. It's a great example of kindness and generosity - and how God can take a difficult situation and turn it into something beautiful.
