Joe: Alright, so what's going on in 1 Kings 19?

Bible Expert: Well, this chapter follows the story of Elijah, the prophet of Israel, who has been witness to some remarkable miracles. After the prophet Ahab, the wicked king of Israel, refused to recognize the God of Israel, Elijah challenged him and the prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel. Of course, God won the contest and Elijah slaughtered the prophets of Baal.

Jamie: Whoa, that's intense!

Joe: Yeah, sounds like something straight out of a movie.

Bible Expert: It certainly is. But after that, the queen, Jezebel, was so angry that she threatened to kill Elijah. So, Elijah runs away in fear and eventually ends up in the desert. He's exhausted and feeling defeated, so he prays for God to take his life.

Joe: Yikes.

Bible Expert: But God sends an angel to take care of him, and sustains him with food and water. Then, God speaks to Elijah from a great wind, an earthquake, and a fire, but God speaks to Elijah from a still, small voice.

Joe: That's wild! So what does God say to him?

Bible Expert: God tells Elijah that he's not alone and that he still has 7,000 people who haven't given in to the false gods of Baal. God encourages him to stand strong and continue to serve Him. So Elijah continues his ministry and eventually anoints Elisha as his successor.

Joe: Well, that's a really inspiring story.
