Joe: Alright so what’s going on with Nahum 3?

Bible Expert: Well, the chapter talks about Nineveh—the capital of the Assyrian Empire. It’s a really powerful city and it’s going to be completely destroyed because of their wickedness.

Joe: Wow, that’s harsh.

Bible Expert: Yeah, it sure is. Nahum 3 talks about Nineveh’s wickedness and that God is going to punish them for it. He describes Nineveh as being like a raging flood, destroying everything in its path. And then he talks about God setting up snares and a net to capture them and bring them to justice.

Joe: Whoa, that sounds intense.

Bible Expert: It sure does. Nahum goes on to talk about the destruction of Nineveh and how the city will be laid to waste. He talks about the dead bodies that will be strewn about the streets and the stench of death that will fill the air. He also talks about how the people of Nineveh will be taken away as captives.

Joe: Wow, that’s really serious.

Bible Expert: Yeah, it is. But Nahum also says that even though Nineveh will be destroyed, God will show mercy to his people. So, even though Nineveh will be destroyed, God will still be merciful and loving to his people.
