Joe - Alright, so we've got our Bible Expert here and he's gonna give us the lowdown on 2 Peter 1. Expert, take it away.

Expert - Sure. Well, 2 Peter 1 is all about growing in faith and knowledge. It starts out with Peter greeting his readers and encouraging them to grow in their faith and add virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. He emphasizes that these traits will make them fruitful and will give them assurance of their calling and election.

Joe - Whoa, whoa, whoa - that sounds like a pretty heady list. Is it really attainable?

Expert - Absolutely. Peter says that if these things are in us and are increasing, we will never fall away from the truth. That's the assurance of our calling and election.

Joe - Wow, that's really powerful. So, what else does Peter have to say in this chapter?

Expert - Well, he goes on to say that if we have these qualities and are growing in them, we won't be forgotten by God. He also warns us to be on guard against untrustworthy people who want to lead us astray. He encourages us to remind each other of these things and to make sure that we are growing in our faith and knowledge.

Joe - That's really important advice. I'm sure Jamie has a few questions.

Jamie - Yeah, I do. What does Peter mean when he talks about being sure of our calling and election?

Expert - Basically, it means that if we are growing in the qualities that Peter mentions, we can be sure that we are on the path to eternal life. It's a reminder that God is with us and that we should stay on the path that He has set for us.
