Bible Expert: Sure. In this chapter, the Lord tells the people of Israel that they have rejected the Lord by worshiping idols and so the Lord will reject them. He speaks of sending away their king and their princes and warns them of the coming judgment for their sins.

Joe: So, you're telling me that if you don't worship the Lord, he will reject you?

Bible Expert: Yes, that is what the Lord says in this chapter. He is warning them of the consequences of rejecting him and going after other gods.

Joe: Wow, that's pretty intense. So, what does the Lord say will happen to them if they don't turn back to him?

Bible Expert: The Lord promises that he will punish them for their sins and that they will be scattered among the nations. He also says that he will bring a nation against them to punish them.

Joe: Yikes. That sounds pretty harsh. Anything else we should know about Hosea 8?

Bible Expert: Yes, in the final verses of the chapter, the Lord promises that he will not completely reject Israel and that he will restore them if they repent and turn back to him.
